鑒於近來南、東海局勢緊張，馬英九總統28日首度搭乘國人自製的雲豹裝甲車，前往大直的國家政軍指揮中心參加政軍兵推，再次讓國產雲豹裝甲車成為鎂光燈焦點。
由於國軍現役V-150輪型裝甲車過於老舊，加上台灣公路交通系統發達，因此自2001年起便以CM-31六輪裝甲車為基礎，由國防部聯勤司令部兵整中心、國防部軍備局生產製造中心下轄的202兵工廠等軍事單位，與中鋼、和成陶瓷等多家公、民營企業共同研發新一代輪型甲車。
雲豹八輪裝甲車正式名稱為台灣步兵戰鬥車（TaiwanInfantry Fighting Vehicle,TIFV），國軍編號為CM-32，2005年1月11日由前總統陳水扁親自命名「雲豹」，並曾於2007年8月的台北國際航太暨國防工業展與2007年10月的國慶大會國防展示等場合亮相，被民進黨政府視為執政期間重大武器國造成就。
國防部原本以「迅馳專案」名義編列500多億元新台幣預算，從2006至2014年之間，採購600多輛雲豹輪式裝甲車。不過「迅馳專案」發展並不順利，首批預量產型剛出廠不久就出現瑕疵，2008年6月國民黨立委林郁方質疑14輛中有4輛出現嚴重的底盤裂痕問題，一度無法通過驗收。
經過軍方成立專案小組調查後，發現主因為中鋼生產的鋼板在加工處理過程中出現瑕疵，經重新生產後才通過軍方驗收，但也使得雲豹裝甲車服役時程拖延。 (接下一頁)
