平面媒體報導，國軍雷霆2000多管火箭系統進駐馬祖，射程深入大陸內陸達40公里，成為台灣威嚇大陸的致命武器。
根據《聯合晚報》報導，馬祖防區過去傳統火砲射程最遠的，是射程23公里的M1型240公厘榴砲，不過馬防部近期向國際媒體公布的各式火砲射程涵蓋示意圖，最大面積卻達到40公里遠，不但涵蓋整個大陸黃岐半島，遠至整個閩江口、平潭區域，都在射程涵蓋區域內，甚至深入平潭內陸，這遠非傳統火砲可以比擬。
一位不願具名的軍方官員透露，這應是新部署的雷霆2000多管火箭系統。報導稱，台灣軍方過去在金門與馬祖部署工蜂六型多管火箭系統，在工六火箭除役後，改由最新型的雷霆2000多管火箭系統接替。不過，對於雷霆2000瞄準大陸何種軍事與經濟設施，軍方並不願透露。
雷霆2000採用模組化發射箱，能夠發射MK-15、MK-30與MK-45等3種火箭彈，分別可發射117、180與270公厘彈徑的火箭彈，最大射程分別為15、30與45公里，能夠發射高爆鋼珠彈、雙效子母彈，嚇阻來犯的敵軍。
2012年12月舉行的軍民通用科技軍品釋商成果展中，中科院研發人員表示，經過改良，雷霆2000最大射程可達100公里， (接下一頁)
