自從311大地震引發核災危機之後，日本境內54座核子反應爐陸續進行歲修，只政策性留下兩座持續運轉。2012年5月5日，北海道電力公司核電廠的反應爐因歲修而停機，原本對核能依賴度高達27%的日本，正式進入「零核時代」。
